The Visit

Designed for site-specific staging

Set in a post-apocalyptic time where society never progressed past the Industrial Revolution, 'The Visit' is set in a rusty and derelict factory wasteland.

I was interested in illustrating the class divide between the working class citizens of 'Slurry' and the opulent Claire Zachanassian and her eccentric entourage.

After reading the script, I created a scene breakdown to get a sense of the many characters involved in the crowd scenes, the timeline and the props used throughout.

I set this performance in the rust belt of America among disused factories; I had a think about local locations suitable for a site-specific performance and realized the Tata Steelworks in Port Talbot would be ideal. I drew inspiration from this site and disused gas towers for the final images.
